**Oscar Wilde said in his essay The Decay of Lying that “Life imitates Art far more than Art imitates Life”and that anti-mimesis (an opposite theory to the mimesis theory that art imitates life) “results not merely from Life’s imitative instinct, but from the fact that the self-conscious aim of Life is to find expression, and that Art offers it certain beautiful forms through which it may realise that energy.” My feeling in art is that both mimesis and anti-mimesis apply. Art is life, but it need not be realistic. Life can be art, regardless of who one may be.
